  1. Pediatric Asthma Diagnosis and Management: A case-based review utilizing the new provincial toolkits for practitioners, and patients/families
    Instructors: Minna Miller, DNP, MSN, BA, RN, FNP-BC, NP(F), FAANP and Chantel Canessa, DNP, MN-NP, BSN, RN, NP(F), CAE

    Descriptor: The purpose of the workshop is to provide a case-based review of pediatric asthma, diagnosis, management strategies, and patient education principles, utilizing the new evidence-based provincial toolkits for providers, and patients/families. The workshop includes a powerpoint presentation, video, case-based scenarios and small group work. Participants will be able to: 1) Locate the new BC pediatric asthma toolkits for providers and patients/families, 2) Discuss the components of evidence-based, pediatric asthma care strategy in BC, and 3) Apply the information to clinical case scenarios to clarify the diagnosis of asthma and/or assess asthma control, develop an age appropriate management plan, provide asthma education and practice the teach back method as per asthma guidelines education checklist.

  2. GLA:D: An evidence-based treatment program for hip and knee osteoarthritis
    Instructors: Allison Ezzat, PT, PhD, Registered Physiotherapist, FCAMPT

    Descriptor: This workshop will provide participants with an overview of the internationally-delivered GLA:D program which aims to implement best-practice clinical guidelines for the non-surgical management of hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA), namely patient education and neuromuscular exercise. It will cover the mechanisms of hip and knee OA, approaches to pain management, and self-management strategies that nurse practitioners can integrate into their own clinical practice.

  3. IUD Insertion
    Instructors: Jennifer Krist, DNP, MN-NP, NP(F) and Desiree Reichardt, NP(F)

    Descriptor: Review insertion, tips and tricks, an update on the Canadian Pediatric Guidelines and SOGC guidelines, and unintended pregnancy data in Canada.

  1. Vascular Wound Care Management…what you need to know when they walk in the office
    Instructors: Wendy L Bowles, MN,NP(F), and Jenny Lindsay, RN, BSN, IIWCC, WOCN

    Descriptor: We will be including an opportunity to get up close and personal, come and gets hands on experience with wound care in our workshop. The best way to learn is to do!

  2. Alcohol Use Disorder: Screening, Diagnosis & Treatment Pearls
    Instructors: Zak Matieschyn, MN, NP(F), Director, Addiction NP Fellowship, BC Centre on Substance Use, and Justina Doerksen, MN, NP(F), Addiction NP Fellow, BC Centre on Substance Use

    Descriptor: In this workshop we will wind our way through short, engaging segments to explore: the new AUD clinical guidelines, SBIRT (Screening, Brief intervention, Referral to Treatment), Motivational Interviewing, Withdrawal management. evidence-based treatment options and more.

  3. myoActivation: A Hands-on Introductory Workshop
    Instructors: Barb Eddy, MN, NP(F) and Carrie Murphy, NP(F)

    Descriptor: myoActivation is a unique therapeutic system that uses needles to target: fascia in tension, scar tissue and myofascial trigger points in patients with chronic pain, balance impairment and mobility restriction. This workshop offers you an in-depth introduction to this intervention. It is best suited to NPs who are exploring the idea of full certification in myoActivation. NPs taking this workshop will need to complete a written consent and medical form in advance of the workshop. All participants will get needled and will needle other learners. No medication is injected. Please note that participants must be current NPs. For more information, contact the instructor Barb Eddy directly at barb.eddy@vch.ca.
